Qatar Participates in the Regional Conference to Review the Global Compact for Safe Migration

The State of Qatar participated on Wednesday in the regional conference to review the Global Compact for Safe Migration, which was held via video conference technology.

The delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the conference was headed by HE Director of International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Youssef Sultan Larem, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs.

At the conference, the Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a presentation on the national report of the State of Qatar on the progress made in implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

His Excellency affirmed the State of Qatar's keenness to put the commitments and guidelines contained in the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration into effect on the ground, in the context of its keeping pace with international and regional interest in the issue of migration, and in light of the national constants based on respect for human rights and support for the rule of law and openness regionally and internationally to achieve sustainable development goals at the international level.

His Excellency pointed out that the State of Qatar initiated the formation of a (national task force) with the aim of keeping pace with international efforts in achieving the commitments and goals stipulated in the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (which has a total of 23 goals), and a report was prepared on the follow-up of the implementation of those goals in the State of Qatar as well as a review of the national experience and promising practices in this field.

His Excellency reiterated Qatar's commitment to continue its efforts to achieve the goals stipulated in the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, and to implement them effectively on the ground, in line with international human rights law and the sustainable development goals.
