The State of Qatar and the brotherly Republic of Türkiye signed a joint statement on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.
The statement was signed by HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and HE Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye.

The statement reads as follows:

We are pleased to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Türkiye in 2023.

Qatari-Turkish relations have witnessed a qualitative transformation since their establishment in 1973, reaching the stage of strategic partnership. Existing cooperation between the two countries continues to strengthen day by day under the wise leadership of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State, and HE Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Qatari-Turkish relations reflect deep-rooted historical ties built on political and social norms. The two countries have exchanged support without hesitation at several important junctures in their history, within the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity. They continue to support each other in several areas, the latest of which was evident in the ongoing support during the disaster of the earthquake that hit Türkiye in February 2023.

This solidarity was manifested in the unique humanitarian assistance provided by the State of Qatar through the air corridor established with military aircraft to transport aid from the first moment of the earthquake, which contributed to alleviating the sufferings of thousands of Turks. The strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Türkiye is fruitful at all levels, as the two countries have shown harmonious positions on most regional and international issues.

In the bilateral context, the mechanism of the Strategic Committee is one of the most concrete indicators of the partnership between the two brotherly countries, whose members have been meeting every year since 2015. Through this strategic committee about 100 agreements have been signed aiming at improving the level of bilateral cooperation in various sectors and fields. The cooperation between the two countries in the economic and trade fields has grown steadily in the past few years in terms of trade exchange and volume of investment.  We are looking forward to advancing these economic and trade relations to serve the interests of our two brotherly countries and peoples.

The deep-rooted cultural, social and religious ties that derive from the depths of history bring the peoples of the two countries together. As for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which was organized by the State of Qatar with unprecedented success, the Republic of Türkiye made valuable contributions to the success of the tournament through its companies and experts in various fields, including construction and hotel industry, in addition to providing security support.

Based on our strategic relationship and bilateral cooperation in the political, diplomatic, economic and trade fields, and in line with the directives of the wise leadership of the two countries, we look forward to continuing our joint efforts and coordinate in various fields to ensure the continuous strengthening of bilateral relations for the benefit of the two brotherly countries and peoples.
