Geneva/Information Office/ 03 March 2017/ The State of Qatar affirmed that its constitution guarantees non-discrimination against persons with disabilities, acknowledges that the principle of equality is one of the fundamental pillars of the Qatari society.
This came Friday in the Speech of the State of Qatar, which was delivered by Nora Ibrahim Al Sada, Second Secretary of Qatar's permanent mission to the UN Office in Geneva before the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council, during the interactive discussion on rights of persons with disabilities.
The principle of equality and non-discrimination is a key element in all human rights conventions, and the basis for the enjoying of all rights and freedoms, said Nora Ibrahim Al Sada stressing that Qatar has worked to ensure that the principle of equality and non-discrimination between persons with disabilities and other citizens in the constitution and in the national laws.
She explained that Qatar has promoted this principle through adopting public policies and plans which emphasize the concept of comprehensive equality on basis of respect for diversity and differences, Pointing out that for persons with disabilities, the State has adopted several measures to ensure that they enjoy all the rights. She noted that national laws of the State of Qatar include clear provisions to ensure that persons with disabilities have full access to public services on an equal basis.
Nora Al Sada said that Qatari laws guaranteed for persons with disabilities access to healthcare and education, pointing that schools have been equipped with all the necessary requirements and facilities to provides the right education environment for students with disabilities. She added that persons with disabilities , in Qatar, enjoy the right to work, housing and social security.
