The State of Qatar welcomes the announcement made by President Ashraf Ghani regarding a temporary ceasefire with Taliban that begins on the 27th of Ramadan, and until the fifth day of Eid.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses hope that Taliban will immediately respond to this announcement.

The Ministry expressed Qatar's aspiration that the announcement would pave the way for the Afghan government and Taliban to sit at the dialogue table and reach a comprehensive peace settlement that will contribute to stabilizing and restoring security to Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses Qatar's firm position on the importance of a political solution in Afghanistan; in this regard, it refers to the Qatari mediation between the government and the movement that aims to bring peace to Afghanistan.
