The State of Qatar welcomes the announcement by the Australian Foreign Minister of the intention of its government to reinstate the term "Occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem," and to deem the Israeli settlements illegal, according to international law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the announcement a positive position reflecting the commitment of the Australian government to international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. At the same time, this announcement promotes all efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace, based on the principle of the two-state solution.

The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar's firm position on the Justice of the Palestinian cause, the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
