Qatar expresses its full support for international efforts aimed at holding the Syrian regime accountable for its use of chemical weapons in Douma

Doha - Media & Communication Dept. - January 28 - 2023

The State of Qatar expresses its full support for international efforts aimed at holding the regime accountable for its horrific crimes against the brotherly Syrian people, including its use of chemical weapons in the city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta in April 2018, and ensuring that war criminals in Syria are brought to international justice.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the recent report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which concluded that the Syrian regime was responsible for the vile attack on the city of Douma, reveals to the world once again the brutality of this unscrupulous and inhumane regime, which continues its horrific policy of massacres and scorched earth. Doing this, it cossed all red lines imposed by morals and required by law.

In this context, the Ministry stresses that any political solution in Syria will not lead to a successful and sustainable outcome without holding those involved in these atrocious crimes accountable. The Ministry also  reiterates the firm position of the State of Qatar about the need to find a negotiated political solution between all Syrian parties in accordance with the Geneva Communiqué (1) and Security Council Resolution No. (2254), in a way that preserves the unity and sovereignty of Syria, and fulfills the aspirations of its people for security and stability.
