Qatar Condemns Shelling Tripoli's Mitiga Airport, Calls for International Investigation

Doha / Information Office / April 08

The State of Qatar has expressed, in the strongest terms, its condemnation of the aerial bombardment of "Mitiga" airport in the Libyan capital Tripoli, for which Haftar forces had claimed responsibility.

In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said that the State of Qatar considers the bombing to be a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, that calls for an urgent international investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The State of Qatar, according to the Ministry's statement, stressed the need for regional and international actors to move urgently to stop the military escalation in Libya, which threatens to undermine the path of the political solution sponsored by the United Nations.

The statement also affirmed Qatar's full support for the internationally-recognized legitimate Government of National Accord and its support for the efforts of the UN envoy to reach a just political solution for the Libyan people.

The statement also renewed the State of Qatar's call to all parties to the conflict in Libya to shoulder their historical responsibility for the Libyan people, which pin their hopes on the path of peaceful solution, and to prioritize national dialogue over military choices and the interest of the Libyan homeland over individual ones.
