Joint Statement between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom on the launch of the co-funding initiative for International Development Cooperation and Global Humanitarian Response

In the context of joint humanitarian efforts, the state of Qatar and the United Kingdom are officially launching a joint funding initiative officially led by the two countries.

Under this initiative, the State of Qatar and the UK will allocate an initial budget of USD 50 million to address the world’s most pressing humanitarian and development challenges. This initiative represents an important achievement in the partnership between the two countries and confirms their joint commitment to contribute to addressing global challenges.

Through this collaboration, the State of Qatar and the UK will unite their expertise, resources and networks to implement impactful projects that address the immediate and long-term challenges faced by communities in these vital areas. This joint development effort reflects the two countries unwavering commitment to promoting sustainable progress and resilience, to achieve the ultimate goal of improving the lives of millions of people.

Recently, the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom worked together to deliver 29 tons of urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip within the framework of joint humanitarian and development cooperation.

In addition, the two countries are actively working together to implement several joint development funding opportunities. It is worth mentioning that the two countries have previously cooperated in projects; two of which focus on Syria to support the necessary humanitarian and educational initiatives, while another project aims at addressing food insecurity in Somalia.

The two countries reaffirm their commitment to accelerating progress on these vital initiatives as they look forward to holding the first inaugural Development Dialogue in London - May 2024.

This event will solidify further co-funding opportunities for development and relief, and promote collaboration on development issues and aid delivery capabilities.

Together, the state of Qatar and the United Kingdom are dedicated to addressing the most urgent development challenges with greater urgency and effectiveness.
