The State of Qatar welcomed Saturday the Republic of Iraq's holding of the first parliamentary elections after defeating terrorist organizations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement today that the State of Qatar fully supports the democratic experiment in Iraq and believes that such elections would promote reconciliation, stability and civil peace, in addition to consolidating the foundations of the state institutions in Iraq and upholding the rule of law.

The statement reiterated Qatar's full support of all efforts aiming to ensure Iraq's unity and sovereignty, and aiming to enhance security and stability by having all political parties and components of Iraqi society joining forces.

The statement expressed the State of Qatar aspiration that the election results will help realize the ambitions of the people of Iraq of further progress and prosperity.
