Doha/Information Office/15 January 2017/ The meeting on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Reform concluded in Doha Sunday in presence of HE the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al Muraikhi and with the participation of 30 countries representing different groups in addition to a number of diplomats, scholars and experts.
In his speech and the closing session, HE the State Minister for Foreign Affairs voiced Qatar's commitment to continue cooperation with the UN and the Member States to tackle common challenges, pointing that Doha has been an important platform for several international conferences and activities within the framework of the UN.
"In the State of Qatar we feel great satisfaction at the conclusion of these discussions as we have seen candor and clarity in the positions and views of all groups in the discussions," He said.
Despite the sensitivity and complexity of the issues discussed at the meeting, the atmosphere that characterized the discussions underlined conviction of everyone that they all share the same worries and have the same hopes and dreams of a safer and better future for mankind, he added pointing that achieving this is coupled with the UN's ability to meet the current and growing challenges.
HE Soltan bin Saad Al Muraikhi praised the participants' eagerness to reach solutions that satisfy everyone and contribute positively to advancing the intergovernmental negotiations (IGN) on Security Council Reform, noting that this eagerness is a reason for pride and optimism and also a resounding success for meeting.
HE the State Minister stressed that discussions and the meeting have highlighted the need for the UNSC to be capable of addressing the challenges facing the world today. The current international crisis underline the need for a fair and realistic reform of the UNSC as part of United Nations reform, he explained.
