UN Assistant Secretary-General Praises Qatar's Positions on the Syrian Issue

HE Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syria Crisis, Panos Moumtzis, hailed Qatar's positive attitudes towards the Syrian issue and the Syrian people, and its continued support to the United Nations and its competent agencies, praising its implementation of all its humanitarian obligations to the various international organizations.

HE the Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syria Crisis also praised Qatar's great support to the refugees and internally displaced persons inside and outside Syria, and the assistance provided by the State of Qatar to the needy in humanitarian crises and relief work.

This came during a meeting between HE Panos Moumtzis and HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Turkey Salem bin Mubarak Al Shafi.

The meeting reviewed the deteriorating situation in northern Syria, especially in Idlib, and the humanitarian needs amid the escalation of military operations and the wave of displacement towards Turkey. The meeting also discussed means of developing cooperation and coordination between the State of Qatar and the relevant United Nations agencies in the fields of humanitarian and development work, in addition to the humanitarian situation of refugees in a number of countries in the region and the efforts in the field of humanitarian relief.

HE the Ambassador affirmed that the State of Qatar supports the organization's efforts in humanitarian work.

His Excellency expressed gratitude for the level of relations of cooperation in humanitarian affairs between the State of Qatar and the international organization, stressing the determination of the State of Qatar to do its utmost to support the efforts to end the humanitarian crisis suffered by the Syrian people.
