Qatar Chairs High-level Meeting on 'Climate and Sustainable Development for All'

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, as Vice-Chairperson of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, chaired a meeting on 'Climate and Sustainable Development for All', which was attended by heads of state, government, ministers and representatives of youth organizations. HE Maria Fernanda Espinosa is Chairperson of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

The meeting, attended by HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, focused on the issue of the Protection of the Global Climate for Present and Future Generations of Humankind in the Context of the Economic, Social and Environmental Dimensions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the synergies between the climate action plan and the sustainable development plan, long-term planning and consideration of generations in the implementation process.

The meeting, which was called for by HE Maria Fernanda Espinosa, deemed 2019 as a crucial year for the international community and will provide an opportunity for concrete progress in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the climate action plan, sustainable development and the maintenance of opportunities for future generations. It is an important meeting which is held prior to the Climate Action Summit which will be convened by the UN Secretary-General Nations on 23 September 2019.

A number of heads of state, government and ministers participated in the meeting which was held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The State of Qatar was represented by a delegation headed by Assistant Undersecretary for Environment Affairs of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada.
