Doha / Information Office / March 13

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri stressed that the State of Qatar values its strategic partnership with the United Nations and has always worked towards achieving its objectives, including maintaining the international peace and security, supporting international development efforts, promoting and protecting human rights, providing humanitarian relief, and participating in collective efforts and initiatives to address current and emerging challenges facing the world.

HE Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, in an interview to UN Special Magazine, issued by the UN office in Geneva, highlighted the pivotal role played by the State of Qatar in solving many of the thorny international issues, reducing tension in international relations and contributing to the maintenance of international peace and security.

His Excellency added that since June 2017, the State of Qatar had been subject to a blockade and unilateral coercive measures by some States of the region, which contravened the Charter of the United Nations and international law, the peaceful relations between States, and caused numerous and grave violations of human rights.

HE Al Mansouri pointed out that the State of Qatar has lodged complaints against blockade countries with a number of international organizations such as the World Trade Organization and the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), as well as the International Court of Justice.

On the role played by Qatari women in the renaissance of the State of Qatar, His Excellency stressed that the political leadership in Qatar plays an important role in supporting women in order to achieve equal rights and enhance their status in society, pointing out that one of the strongest women's empowerment advocates in Qatar is HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, who has worked to highlight the important role of Qatari women and encourage them to move forward with social responsibilities and to participate in public life.

HE Al Mansouri also pointed out that the State of Qatar has achieved many of the goals of sustainable development 2030, in many areas including infrastructure and urban development and its effects on health and education, as well as finishing many projects in the sectors of energy, water and electricity, and protecting the environment, stressing that the State of Qatar has spared no effort in providing humanitarian and development assistance and fulfilling its international obligations in many regions of the world without any discrimination.

His Excellency also stressed that this year will witness a qualitative leap in the strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations as historic agreements have been signed between the two countries and the State of Qatar has provided a financial contribution of USD 500 million over several years to support and finance the work of a number of humanitarian organizations, and Doha is also preparing to be home to a number of major international organizations and UN institutions and bodies.
