Qatar Hosts New Round of Talks between United States and Taliban Movement

The State of Qatar hosted today a new round of talks between the United States and the Taliban Afghan Movement in continuation of the previous round of talks between the two parties which took place from January 21 to 26, aimed at achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The talks were chaired by Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution, HE Dr. Mutlaq bin Majid Al-Qahtani, HE the Deputy Commander of the Taliban Movement for Political Affairs - Head of Taliban Political Office, Mulla Abdul Ghani Berader and HE the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad.

The State of Qatar welcomes these negotiations, which it considers an important development in the peace negotiations in Afghanistan, and hopes that these negotiations will achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.
