HE President Michel Aoun of the Lebanese Republic inaugurated today the Lebanese National Library in Beirut, which was funded by the State of Qatar at a cost of $ 25 million for its rehabilitation and development project.

The opening ceremony, which was attended by HE Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri in the presence of HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Lebanon Mohammed Bin Hassan Al Jaber .

In a speech at the ceremony, HE President Michel Aoun extended thanks to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and the Qatari Government, which have been keen to fund the rehabilitation of the National Library, to adorn the best suit, and civilized setting that reflects the bright face of Lebanon. "

For his part, HE the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Lebanon Mohammed bin Hassan Al Jaber, conveyed the greetings of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and his congratulations to Lebanon, President, Government and people on the inauguration of this cultural edifice in the center of the capital, Beirut, which has attracted many cultures and civilizations. It has maintained its civilization and distinguished position it in the East, and has become a landmark, unlike any other.

HE Ambassador Jaber expressed his thanks to HE General Michel Aoun for the grace inauguration of this great cultural edifice, which means a lot to us.

HE the Ambassador said that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani had directed following up the efforts made by HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, since 2006, to promote the National Library in Lebanon, to be crowned with the opening of this historical cultural edifice, which resembles Lebanon, the homeland of crafts, civilization and cultural wealth.

He noted that HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser laid the foundation stone for the National Library Revival Project in the heart of Beirut on May 10, 2009, in the belief that it is necessary to preserve the great historical heritage of Lebanon and enrich it with successive civilizations and cultures to highlight Beirut as the eternal capital of culture, thought, science and knowledge.

He pointed out that the Qatari contribution to the revival of the Lebanese intellectual and scientific history in this project is a reflection of Qatari self-realization on the basis of investing in human beings to preserve its culture and history.

HE the Ambassador said: "Our culture speaks to us and our heritage, our identity and our history determines our tomorrow ... The guidance of man and the expansion of his intellectual horizons is the basis and goal of our national vision and our approach begins with a step under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani .

We, in spite of all the conditions of the siege imposed on the State of Qatar, are committed to fulfilling our commitments, and this is the State of Qatar, as you know it,", he noted

HE the ambassador stressed that the role played by Doha as the capital of culture and science is not new, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani inaugurated Qatar National Library on 16 April 2018, as a scientific and global destination, to acquire the knowledge and creative skills necessary to contribute effectively to the projects organized by our beloved country Qatar.

He stressed that the inauguration of the National Library in Beirut is not the only cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Lebanese Republic. The deep bilateral relations between our two brotherly countries speak for themselves in every part of Lebanon and were rooted in history.

The Lebanese officials highly praised the $ 25 million project offered by the State of Qatar to promote the National Library in Lebanon, believing that the national library, which had been rebuilt on new scientific grounds, would not have been possible without this generous gift. " HE the Ambassador added.

For his part, HE Ghattas Khoury, Minister of Culture in the Lebanese Caretaker Government, thanked in a similar speech the role of the State of Qatar and its generous donation to revive the Lebanese National Library.
