Foreign Ministry Welcomes Qatar's Re-election for Human Rights Council Membership

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed today the State of Qatar's re-election to the UN Human Rights Council for a fourth round of three-year term for 2018-2020, by 155 votes for the State of Qatar from 193 votes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this victory, for the fourth time since the establishment of the Human Rights Council in 2006 and the large number of countries that voted for the State of Qatar, reflects the confidence of the international community in the active and positive role played by the State of Qatar in the protection and promotion of human rights and related issues and also reflects its established approach and policy towards the promotion and protection of human rights at the local, regional and international levels and to fulfill its international obligations in this regard.

The statement asserted that the State of Qatar will continue its efforts and active role in the Human Rights Council to achieve the lofty goals for which the Council was established.
