Foreign Minister Stresses Qatar's support for the Syrian people

London/Information Office/ 04 February 2016/ HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has confirmed that the plight of the Syrian people is still continuing and worsening in spite of the number of meetings and initiatives held regarding the crisis existing in Syria for five years . HE the Minister said that the tragedy turned from dropping tons of bombs and explosive barrels and missiles on the heads of the Syrian people around the clock into death by starving people or depriving them of medicines and other basics of life. Speaking at the Syrian Donors Conference 2016, held today in London, HE the Minister said that the worse thing is what we are seeing and hearing now on the sidelines of the Geneva talks such as political statements and disregard to the fate of the residents of the besieged villages and townships such as Al-Zabadani, Al Fou'ah and Kafriya, who are starving, while those responsible for their tragedy are continuing to bargain to exchange a humanitarian disaster for political gains, challenging all calls issued by effective parties in the international community who are stressing the need to move away from exchanging the crisis of the besieged people for any negotiated political process. HE Sheikh Mohammed said that the hope was pinned on that the date of the Geneva talks would be a real beginning of a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis that would be committed to by all parties involved in the conflict, but unfortunately what we observe is the insistence of some parties to prolong the crisis and push the situation to rot more and the final outcome would be inflicting more harm to the Syrian civilians who find themselves now as almost victims of the annihilation wars of the previous century. He went to say that the good people of the international community are still insisting to exert their maximum efforts and money in order to put an end to disasters that harmed the Syrian people, saying ''our conference today is a proof that good offices are going on and the State of Qatar as usual contributes, through its official and charitable institutions to comfort Syrian children, women and elderly persons who had been displaced from their homeland while the world is watching unable to find a radical solution to this crisis. HE the Foreign Minister explained that HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani confirmed to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon the keenness of the State of Qatar to contribute to all efforts exerted to provide assistance to Syrian refugees and to alleviate their suffering . In his speech HE Sheikh Mohammed expressed thanks to the Emir, government and people of Kuwait and governments of friendly countries, the United Kingdom , the Federal Republic of Germany and the Kingdom of Norway for their initiatives to convene this important meeting, and also expressed his deep appreciation to the United Kingdom for the good preparation and organization and hosting of this conference. He also praised efforts of the United Nations Secretary General and his aides for good preparation to ensure success of this conference.
