Qatari Ambassador to Thai Land Highlights the Country's Preparations for World Cup 2022

The State of Qatar is making great efforts to make the 2022 FIFA World Cup the most comprehensive tournament in the history of sporting events, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Thai Land Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has stressed.

"We are working to make these efforts continue as a practical practice for all of us to ensure that the urban and economic renaissance witnessed by the State of Qatar would positively affect all segments of society as well as cities and facilities," he said in an interview with Thai Channel 3 adding that winning the hosting of World Cup 2022 was an honor not only for the country, but for the region as well, noting that the World Cup symbolizes, in addition to football, friendship, tolerance and unity.

He further added that the State of Qatar is witnessing a comprehensive and complete development of infrastructure to meet the needs of this major event.

HE Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that Qatar has emerged as an international sports center and destination for sports tourism through the establishment of major regional and international sporting events, where it has achieved remarkable success in this regard.

HE the Ambassador described the sports infrastructure in the State of Qatar as sophisticated and impressive, noting the excellence of the facilities of the Aspire Zone, Aspetar Sports Medicine Hospital at the global level, as well as the success of BeIN Sports Network and Al Kass sports channel.

He stressed that all stadiums for the World Cup matches will be completed by 2020, "All roads, rail network, hotels and shopping malls will also be completed on time," he said. "We seek offering world-class facilities that offer unparalleled quality services," HE the Ambassador added.

"The State of Qatar considers sport an integral part of its National Vision 2030. Sport is deeply rooted in the national agenda and detailed in the national development strategy," he said highlighting that Qatar celebrates the state sports day every year.

HE Ambassador Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani considered the stadiums of the 2022 World Cups to be the center-piece of Qatar's preparations for the tournament, pointing to the installation of air conditioning systems in all stadiums for the comfort of both players and spectators. 

He explained that all stadiums that will host the world cup, except for one, are only 60 km apart, allowing the fans to attend more than one game a day, pointing out that the tournament is held in 7 cities and 12 stadiums.

His Excellency pointed out that the temperature inside Lusail Stadium, which will host the opening and the final of the tournament will be 27 degrees using new technology by solar energy, adding that there are 11 other stadiums: Khalifa International Stadium, Al Gharafa, Al Khor, Al Rayyan, Doha, Education City, Qatar University, Sports City, and Umm Salal.

He noted that the State of Qatar has developed an electric railway network to facilitate access to sports stadiums in the shortest possible time, pointing out that they also serve the population and benefit from the long-distance railway network

He stressed that development will continue at a rapid pace in terms of delivering facilities of the highest quality. He also stressed that the diversity of the tourism services will be vital to achieving the objectives of the National Tourism Sector Strategy 2030.

He added that Qatar is characterized by the availability of several luxury hotel facilities, eco-friendly resorts, beaches and deserts, and that work is under way to expand existing hotels and create new ones to receive the largest number of visitors, expecting to receive about 1.5 million visitors and tourists during the tournament.

HE the ambassador said that Qatar is working to meet the needs of the increasing number of visitors during the World Cup and beyond by increasing the options for activities and entertainment in parallel with the efforts to expand and diversify the provision of accommodation and tourism infrastructure, highlighting that the different components of that infrastructure such as hotels, restaurants, harbors, shopping centers of regional and international fame and entertainment centers are present in all the cities of Qatar.

He stressed that the preparation of the Qatar football team for the 2022 World Cup is based on the vision of the state, which stimulates the community and encouraging participation in the most popular game in the world, which contributes to expanding the grassroots of the game to be able to provide national teams with promising Qatari talent. He added that the strategy will eventually help the team give strong performances on the field.

HE the Ambassador thanked the Government and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand for their support to the State of Qatar in all fields, especially the sports field, noting that Thailand played an important role with other Asian countries in hosting the 2022 World Cup in Asia. He also welcomed the people of Thailand to come and enjoy the event, describing them as in love with football.
